There are many benefits of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, both physically and mentally. It’s a very fun way to get fit and a great stress buster. Other benefits include increased levels of fitness, strength, balance and co-ordination, flexibility, self confidence, self esteem, weight loss, problem solving and, most of all, FUN and the feel good factor! Classes are taught in a safe and secure environment and all levels are catered for and beginners are actively encouraged to attend the classes.
All classes commence with breakfalls and specific exercises related to Brazilian Jitsu Jitsu, with heavy emphasis on drilling techniques and specific training. Sparring plays a large part in your development in Brazilian Jitsu; practising techniques on a live resisting partner allows you to quickly assess your progress and gives you immediate feedback on areas that need improving upon. It is not a fight to the death. If you have any concerns speak to the instructor, who will be there to reassure you and guide you in the right direction.
The club actively competes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, no-gi grappling and Mixed Martial Arts events both in the UK and abroad; there is no pressure on any student to compete, though it is always encouraged. You will learn so much by stepping out onto the mats and competing against a total stranger, both in grappling terms and about yourself and at the end of the match, win or lose, you will have a new friend for life, trust me! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone, male and female, young and old!
